Day 1: Marrakech – Télouet – Ouarzazate
Welcome at Marrakech Airport. Depart for Télouet through the mountains of the High Atlas region, crossing the Tiznictchka peak at an altitude of 2,260 metres. Once at Télouet, you will visit the Pacha Glaoui Kasbah. After lunch, you will be transported through the Ounila valley with its plethora of Berber villages. En route, you will have the chance to stop off at the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Depart for Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Roses valley – Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges
Depart Ouarzazate for Skoura. This stretch of the tour comprises a visit to the Amredhyle Kasbah – one of the southern wonders on the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs. Continue on towards the Valley of Roses, with a stop for lunch overlooking the Dades Gorge. After travelling onwards in the direction of Thingir, you can look forward to arriving at the Todra Gorges amid spectacular scenes of contrast where the desert meets the palm plantations. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Gorges de Todra – Tinjedad – Touroug – Erfoud – Merzouga
Depart in the direction of Tinjedad for a morning visit to the palm plantations before lunch. This is followed by a visit to a fossil studio in Erfoud. Next, you will cross a large expanse of desert to reach Merzouga, which is situated at the base of the great dunes of Erg Chebbi, which can reach a height of 200 meters. After a rest over a cup of refreshing mint tea, you will join a team of camel riders for a foray into the majestic Sahara to reach a Berber camp in time to admire the sunset. Dinner and overnight camping in a traditional Berber tent.
Day 4: Merzouga – Khamlia – Ouzina – M’harech
Return to Merzouga by camel. After lunch, depart for the village of Khamlia where local musicians will welcome you with Gnaoua music and a revitalising cup of tea. You will then be transported across the Ziz oued along a section of the Paris-Dakar route. Lunch at Ouzina village, which is a hidden gem in this sparse desert landscape. Travel on to M’Harech over dunes and through the Rheris oued. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 5: M’harech to Zagora
After breakfast, depart for Zagora along the Paris-Dakar route, crossing desert plateaux known as hamadas, where nomadic families live. Dinner and overnight hotel stay in Zagora.
Day 6: Zagora – Tamgroute – Mhamid – Chegaga
After breakfast, depart for Tamegroute and a visit to Zaouïa, the ancient Koranic library. Explore the studios of local artisans, featuring exquisite pottery and the novelty of an underground kasbah. Lunch at Mhamid. Spend the afternoon journeying towards Chegaga, one of the two great tracts of sand dunes within the Sahara. Another magical chance to witness the glory of the desert sunset before spending a night encamped under the stars. Dinner and overnight stay in tent.
Day 7: Chegaga – Foum Zguit – Taznakhte – Ouarzazate
Depart for Foum Zguit after breakfast, keeping an eye out for glimpses of nomadic villages along the way. You will pass nearby to the drained lake, Iriqui, travelling across desert plateaux that are dotted with acacia trees. Picnic lunch before travelling on to Ouarzazate via Taznakhte. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 8: Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Breakfast before departing for a visit to the town of Ouarzazate and a guided tour of the cinema studios. Lunch is followed by a trip to the Taourirt Kasbah. Return to Marrakech. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 9: Transfer to the airport.
